[Update March 2010 : Read a review of - Year One on Bicyclistic ]

In short: Bicyclistic is photos and paintings, with words from time to time.

Longer description:

From Dublin, I’m a full-time artist who’s done a lot of cycling, especially long-distance touring, e.g. solo trips across America and Europe.

Since 2001 I’ve been blogging in various guises, and 8 years later I found myself wanting to go back and do it all differently. In other words it was time for a new blog.

Bicyclistic is my personal blog, where I tell the stories of painting, of cycling, and the things I think of while standing at bus-stops. It’s also where I post just photos. And sometimes there’s a dog.

I’ll also post details of any upcoming sales of paintings. I like to think there’ll be specials every week, but then I also like to think about nothing but squares for hours on end.

If you’re interested in details about me you can have a read of 101 things about me that I posted on another blog, called IrishKC. Or you can just wait until I turn them into 101 blog posts here.

There’s also some personal background on American Hell, my cartoon blog which shall continue as normal.

In some ways Bicyclistic is a continuation of the story that was my move to a cottage in Donegal in September 2008, and in other ways it’s just a continuation of some humorous posts I frequently posted on IrishKC - such as this smattering:

  • A Phone Call to an Irish Mother
  • A Bad Pint: Here Be Dragons
  • I’m Reminded of the British Police by Valentine’s Day in the USA
  • A U2 Story: Dublin in 1979 and 1987
  • Going Out The In Door
  • An Irish Odyssey in Kansas City
  • History of a Pub, An Irish Pub
  • Readying for Ireland on the Streets of Kansas City
  • Fun in America
  • Meeting Maradona
  • The Seagull Has Landed
  • Travelling by Train in Ireland

Thanks,
We’ll talk again,

    Hi Liam,

I really like your work! I live in Westport, Co. Mayo (i encountered your name through Fergus Kelly on Linked In) and i am a director of Westport Civic Trust. Our big campaign over the last 12 years has been to obtain the last remaining Georgian walled garden in the town as a public amentity. It is almost an acre in size. So far we have managed to protect it from development, and now we are moving into a phase where we need to fund-raise to purchase it for the town. We are putting together a brochure to present to potential funders, and we will need an artist’s impression of how the Garden could look once it’s restored. I am just wondering if you would be able to do such a thing, and how much you might charge for it. We would be able to send you some photos of how it once looked, along with some ideas of what we would like to include in the drawing. It needn’t be too sizeable, i suppose either A4 or a little bigger. We could also use it in power point presentations.
Let me know what you think.

    Many thanks,
    Iris
P.S. I didn’t know how else to contact you!
