Photo: Daisy Thing, Rain

People have asked me if looking at the great plains of America from the saddle of a bicycle is boring. Truth be told they don’t usually ask, they tell me - in a very insistent tone.
I can’t convince them otherwise, but when the grasses, crops, and wild flowers, are dripping in rainwater, there are few [...]

Photo: Moss, Sunshine and Frost

I’m one of those people who likes moss so much it takes great discipline to resist taking hundreds of photos of the stuff. But I’ve probably taken a few dozen. This shot was of some moss in Lucan by my studio, taken as I went down to the village one cold morning for some milk.

Photo: Blades of Grass

A photo. Of blades of grass.
Ok, I know it’s not really blades of grass - but it looks like grass and I’m useless at plant names, so maybe it even is grass after all or somewhere in the family, like that relative you name-drop but never actually see.

Photo: Daisies

A photo of some daisies growing wild here in Dublin West. It’s hard not to like them when they impress upon you in such numbers.

Photo: One Tree

A photo of a small tree, somewhere in Ireland. It’s not possible to talk about single trees without sounding corny, so that’s all I have for you.

Photo: Grassy Stuff

Frequently on the bicycle when I’ve seen feathery oceans of grassy stuff, mostly in central Ireland or the Plains States of America, I’ve stopped cycling, walked over and touched it.
This photo is of just a single plant. There is no ocean. But even single plants take me to places I’ll never see again.

Little Yellow Flower Things

Against light background or dark, with greenflies on them or not, in the rain or the dew, I’ve probably spent too much time looking at these little yellow flower things.

No, I haven’t asked anybody what they’re called.

Lilies, Yellow

I’m not very good at looking after plants, but I can look at them for very long periods of time. Within days of being told these are lilies I will have forgotten, and again to me they will be big yellowy flowers.

Photo: Gooseberries

One of the things I missed about Ireland when living in America, was Gooseberries. Unlike when growing up, these days to get them I don’t have to climb over a wall into somebody’s garden.
